Many people claim that the darker the color of coffee, the better it is for you. However, this is not necessarily true. Black coffee possesses certain health benefits. It also has more caffeine than white coffee, which can benefit those who caffeine occasionally.
Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks in the world. Legend has it that it was discovered in Ethiopia in the 16th century. It spread to Arabia, then to Europe and now it’s available everywhere in the world.
There are three main varieties of coffee. Arabica, Robusta and Liberica. Arabica is the most expensive because it takes the longest to mature and is the most flavorful and aromatic of the three varieties. It is grown in over 70 countries, but the most used beans are from Brazil and Colombia.
Arabica beans are harvested from trees that are about 4-8 meters high and have fruits that ripen twice a year. The ripe fruits are harvested by hand and resemble cherries or olives and are then made into parchment coffee. The coffee is dried for 10-12 days and then is milled to remove the shell and seeds from the beans. The beans are then roasted to desired flavors and they are packaged for sales.
The cupper, the person who tastes coffee before selling it, will taste the coffee based on five major characteristics: aroma, flavor, acidity, body, and aftertaste.
The body of a coffee is the thickness and weight of the liquid in the cup. A coffee with a thin body or watery consistency means the coffee has low oiliness and high acidity and low or no bitterness at all. But coffee with a body that is heavy like a syrup or creamy will taste bitter and acidic at the same time and lack the body too. This explains why some people do not like coffee dark in color.
So let’s find out why white coffee is better than black coffee.
5 Reasons Why White Coffee Is Better Than Black Coffee:
It’s healthier: The darker, the better? Not when it comes to your cup of coffee! White coffee has less caffeine than black coffee. So you can have a double espresso and still sleep well at night! Most people who are used to drinking black coffee would need to get used to white coffee because normally a drink is bitter if you drink a cup of it without using milk or sugar. Also, most people would drink black coffee because black coffee has more caffeine in it than white coffee, which is true, however, black coffee also has more acid in it than white coffee, which is also true. What the acid does is irritate our stomach and can cause heartburn or acid reflux. Black coffee has a lot of antioxidants in it which is good for our heart and the antioxidants protect our bodies against disease, however, if have a diet high in acid it will actually negate the antioxidants and we actually start absorbing the acid because the stomach acid neutralizes the antioxidants. So as long as you drinking white coffee and drinking some milk with it, you are okay. The darker the color of the coffee the more acid it has in it. Most black coffees will have caffeine and acid in them which is bad for your stomach and if you have reflux or heartburn.
It’s cheaper: Black coffee is more expensive to make than white coffee because you need the beans to be roasted to get the darker color you need in order to get the bitterness of black coffee, whereas with white coffee all you need is to put the beans in water and boil it and that’s it! It’s that simple and that cheap! So as long as you have milk or cream with your coffee it actually tastes good! You don’t have to pay $4 for a 16-ounce black coffee when you can get the same price for a 16-ounce white coffee! Also, the majority of Starbucks black coffees cost $3.90 for a 16-ounce cup but then a latte costs $4.25 or a tall white cup of coffee is $3.15! So you just saved yourself $1.10! At the end of the day, it’s all about saving the money that you can so you can use that savings to spend on other important things in your life!
It’s more flavorful: White coffee doesn’t have that bitter aftertaste that some black coffees have. So you don’t have to add sugar or cream to it in order to mask the bitterness of it. Instead, it tastes better without anything added to it and it tastes better just by itself! So you don’t have to waste your time adding milk or sugar to it because you already saved lots of money doing so! In fact, black coffee dries your mouth out, which defeats the purpose of drinking coffee in the first place. So just drink a good white cup of coffee instead and enjoy it because the coffee tastes good and you won’t have to worry about adding sugar to it!
It’s tastier: White coffee is smoother on the palate than black coffee, and it has a sweeter flavor to it than black coffee does! For those of you who do not like the bitterness of it, try white coffee and you will see the difference! Try white coffee instead of black coffee and you will not be disappointed! White coffee is not only healthier for you but it tastes better too! So drink white coffee rather than black coffee and you will save your money and time in the process!
It’s better for the environment: Black coffee has a lot of paper in it, and a lot of paper that goes into making coffee ends up in the garbage and landfills, and it takes more time to decompose in the landfill than white coffee does! So choose a cup that is white rather than a cup that is black and the environment will appreciate it too because it saves the planet the oxygen it needs in order to breathe! So whenever you can drink white coffee rather than black coffee, the environment benefits as well and that’s a great reason to choose white over black! The more I read and researched white coffee the more I realized that black coffee isn’t as healthy as we try to make us believe and that white coffee has more to offer than black coffee does.
